Alcathoe Bat

The Alcathoe bat is so similar to the whiskered and brandt’s bat that it was only confirmed to be a separate species in Europe in 2001 after DNA testing. It uses echolocation to locate and eat moths, flies, and midges. They primarily live in the woods. Alcathoe bats are brown with small ears.

Due to the recent discovery and lack of information about this animal, it has been listed as ‘Data Deficient’ on the IUCN Red List.
