Moss Carder Bee

The Moss Carder bee is a long-tongued bumble bee. They make nests in vegetation in open grassland on the surface of the ground and use grass and moss to cover the surface of their nest. These bees need a large area to forage for plants, and mostly fly between the months of May and September.

In Wales, this bee can be found in damp and coastal areas. The population is currently declining mostly due to “loss and fragmentation of habitat” due to agricultural development. Climate change may also be affecting the moss carder bee by drying its habitat.
