Red Squirrel

Red squirrels are known for their reddish-brown fur, large bushy tails, and ear tufts. In the winter, red squirrels’ coats become a slightly more grey colour. Red squirrels do not hibernate in the winter. This animal likes coniferous, broadleaved, and mixed woodland.

Red squirrels are facing a decline in population due to the introduction of a non-native animal, the grey squirrel. Grey squirrels are larger and carry squirrelpox, which is fatal to red squirrels.
